Summary
Chaudhri Muhammad Ali Radaulvi’s Ataliq Bibi (c. 1923) is a collection of fourteen comic sketches adapted from Douglas Jerrold’s Curtain Lectures: the nightly scoldings Mrs. Caudle gives her husband, relocated to an Urdu household. Each chapter is a lecture delivered one evening, introduced by a couplet and prompted by some mishap, such as a trip to the fair. This book uses the racial and other slurs of its period as written; the Book Guide explains these words where they occur.
