Captain Jonas Ratje, heartily sick of the sea, and his old engineer Dick Darling, half Scot and half Norwegian, buy a battered tugboat named Styggen and try to make a living with her in Bergen harbour. Eight comic episodes follow their schemes and scrapes with shipowners, merchants, rivals and the law.
