Mooses is not yet ten when a foal is born in the stable of his father's posting inn at Honkaniemi, and boy and horse grow up together. As the years pass the old life of the coaching road gives way, a railway is laid across the parish, and the family's fortunes change with it. A warm country novel about a man, his horses and a changing village. This book uses the racial and other slurs of its period as written; the Book Guide explains these words where they occur.
