A play in four parts on the Great Departure: Prince Siddhartha, in the garden of his father's palace beneath the Himalaya, leaves his wife, his child and his kingdom to seek the way that makes a Buddha. Kwee Tek Hoay wrote it for the Chinese Buddhist community of Java in 1937; the groom Channa and the horse Kantaka bring him as far as the forest.
