Seven prose works by Ludwik Bruner, who wrote as Jan Sten. The title novella is a young Pole's record of a month in Paris, from December into January, written as letters and a diary, in which loneliness, money troubles and an infatuation put him to the test. The other pieces include Hamlet, Przysięgły (The Juror), Spotkanie (The Meeting) and Trzy dusze (Three Souls). This book contains scenes of violence as its author wrote them.
