مومن خان مومن

1800–1852

Biography

Momin Khan Momin was born in Delhi in 1800 into a family of physicians and practised medicine himself. He lived in the Delhi of Ghalib and Zauq, and he died there in 1852.

He is remembered chiefly as a ghazal poet of love, with a reputation for subtle turns of thought and a refined, restrained style, and he also wrote some masnavis and qasidas. His surviving work is smaller in quantity than that of his two famous neighbours.

The book on this site, انتخابِ کلامِ مومن, is not his complete work. It gathers the poems that volunteers have so far typed on Urdu Wikisource.
