Kyösti Wilkuna
1879–1922
Biography
Kustaa (Kyösti) Felix Wilkuna was a Finnish writer who is also remembered for his political and organising work. He was born in Nivala on 4 May 1879 and died in Lapua on 12 December 1922, both towns in Ostrobothnia, the western region of Finland that lies along the Gulf of Bothnia.
His public life was closely tied to the White side of the Finnish civil war of 1918. He was active in the White cause and helped to organise the Civil Guard movement, which was central to it. The Finnish encyclopaedia also calls him a heimosoturi, a participant in the kinship wars of the early 1920s. The available sources say little about his literary career, so this page does not say more about it.
The book on this site is Tapani Löfvingin seikkailut, The Adventures of Tapani Löfving. Its title names a single hero, and the story follows his adventures. Readers should keep in mind that his public activity was bound up with one side of the 1918 war, and that this colours how both his writing and his organising are remembered.
